2021 Blueblood Blaufrankisch

Gold
Berlin Wine Trophy, Germany

Hand-harvested from our Hahndorf vineyard at low yields, the fruit for the 2021 Blueblood Blaufrankisch was vinified using a mix of cold maceration and wild fermentation in large oak foudre. The wine then matured for 11 months in French oak barriques, including 15% new.

The result is a full-bodied red with aromas of ripe cherry, black fruits and crushed herbs. The palate is dense and layered, offering notes of dark berries, savoury herbs, mocha and a long finish of liquorice, framed by rich, mouth-filling tannins.

A natural match for seared lamb, crispy duck, Atlantic salmon or boldly spiced dishes — meat or vegetarian.

Huon Hooke, The Real Review
“Deep, bold red with a trace of purple lingering; there are blackberry, chocolate, vanilla and subtle mint aromas coupled with other dried-herb traces, nothing green or unripe, while the tannins are abundant, powdery and drying, with a lingering underlying fruit sweetness. A serious red wine which is ageing gracefully.”
